Celebrating 30 years with Jes Jakobsen

From floppy disks to Solution Architect

When Jes Jakobsen joined TRIMIT 30 years ago, implementing a new system could mean showing up at a customer with ten floppy disks under his arm.

A lot has changed since then.

Jes was one of TRIMIT’s first ten employees. He joined as a consultant after eight years as a mechanical engineer – without actually realising at first that he was interviewing for an IT company.

His original plan was simple: get three years of IT experience and then return to engineering.

That never happened.

Instead, Jes went from consultant to project leader and today works as a Solution Architect, looking across the entire customer solution and making sure all the pieces fit together.

The customer at heart

Despite changing roles, technology and ways of working, one thing has remained remarkably consistent: Jes' curiosity and his focus on the customer.

He still enjoys visiting a new customer, understanding how their products are made and figuring out how TRIMIT can help solve the challenges they face.

“What I do is very much about getting things solved for the customer. That’s definitely one of the things that drives me the most.”

And after 30 years, experience also means knowing exactly which colleague to turn to when a challenge requires a different pair of eyes. For Jes, having skilled colleagues around him is an important part of getting the best solution for the customer.

A new job twice a year

So what makes someone stay with the same company for 30 years?

For Jes, part of the answer is that it has never really felt like the same job.

New customers, new projects, different colleagues and constantly evolving technology mean there is always something new to understand and solve.

“In a way, I get a new job twice a year.”

It is exactly that variety that has kept his curiosity alive. And with Microsoft and TRIMIT continuously developing, there is little chance of simply relying on routine.

There is another reason too. Jes describes TRIMIT as a workplace with freedom, flexibility and room for people – also when life throws something unexpected their way.

“It’s a spacious company with a good mindset.”

For someone who lives in Aarhus, Jes also appreciates being able to mix days at the office in Viborg with customer visits and days working from home.

Life beyond TRIMIT

And life outside work has changed over 30 years too.

These days, Jes enjoys spending time with family and friends – and grandchildren have added a new chapter.

He also keeps active with running and strength training. Volleyball may have been left behind years ago, but if someone brings a ball to the beach, Jes says he is still ready to join in.

30 years, several roles, countless customer projects – and still plenty of curiosity left. Congratulations, Jes, and thank you for everything you continue to bring to TRIMIT.
